Brief outline: The Railway is located at Goldsmiths Leisure Centre and runs around the Crowborough Centenary Boating Lake opened in 2005 for the sailing of model boats.

The railway runs steam and deisel outline hauled trains every Saturday and Bank Holiday during the running season – from Good Friday until the Crowborough Guy Fawkes celebrations in November.

Title of Day Out: Explore Kent ‘On The Trail Of The Tudors’ Bike Ride – Tonbridge to Penshurst
Brief outline: This is a brilliant, mostly traffic-free bike ride that will take the kids on an adventure they will love!  It is a 6 mile route and recommended that you allow an hour to complete.  

It begins in Tonbridge (you can either drive and park in Tonbridge or get the train from Tunbridge Wells) and follows a route that will take you past Tonbridge Castle, the River Medway (Look out for the ducks!) and the magnificent Penshurst Place.

Title of Day Out: Hargate Forest
Brief outline: Come and experience beautiful woodland, rolling heathland and towering pine trees at the ever changing Hargate Forest.  In springtime you will see a fantastic range of flowers and plenty of frogspawn, in the summer the heath flowers purple and rowan berries line the paths, the changing leaf colour of the trees and foraging squirrels symbolise autumn’s arrival followed by the beautiful silence of the winter wonderland. 

There are two trails clearly marked by arrows.  

The green walk is one mile long and will take 30  minutes to complete.  There is a gentle hill with a slight to moderate gradient and the path is surfaced.

The red walk is two miles long and will take approximately 1 hour to complete.  There are some hills with moderate gradients.  Paths are unsurfaced in places and there are some tree roots, ruts, holes and bumps.  Some sections get muddy in winter or after rain.

The walk is 3.4 miles and will take approximately 3 hours.
It is a mixture of surfaced and unsurfaced paths through grassland and woodland.  There are numerous stiles and bridges to cross and two sections of quiet country lanes.

Nestled in a medieval deer-park, Knole is vast, complex and full of hidden treasures. Originally an archbishop’s palace, the house passed through royal hands to the Sackville family – Knole’s inhabitants from 1603 to today. 

Our project to conserve Knole continues with the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund. With external repairs complete, a new bookshop and visitor centre opened in 2015. In summer 2016, we opened the Gatehouse Tower to visitors for the very first time, as well as the refurbished Brewhouse Cafe and shop.

Pepenbury
Title of Day Out: Pepenbury Farm and Woodland Walks
Brief outline: Pepenbury is a charity that provides residential homes, day services and support for people living independently in the community.  In 1961 Pepenbury moved from Larkfield to Pembury and registered as a permanent residential home for people with learning disabilities.

Pepenbury has a farm where the animals are cared for by the residents.  For a donation you can come and visit the many animals including donkeys, Kune Kune pigs, goats, chickens, ducks and rabbits.  
 
Pepenbury also has a coffee shop and a farm shop run by the resident and an area for children to play.

The Bluebell walk is approximately a mile and a half long through some of the prettiest and un-spoilt countryside in the High Weald.  A map of the woodland walk can be found in the Coffee Shop.  It is suitable for all ages.

Sevenoaks Wildlife reserve
Title of Day Out: Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve and Jeffery Harrison Visitor Centre
Brief outline: A pioneering nature reserve which has a roughly equal proportions of water and land.  It includes five lakes and a mixed habitat of ponds, seasonal flooded pools, reedbed and woodlands.

It is a spectacular site for birds but the reserve;s wetland and woodland habitats also support a diverse community of plants, fungi and other animals.  

A visitor centre houses displays illustrating the prehistory and history of the site, the creation of the reserve, its habitats and the wildlife they support.  There are touch tables where visitors can handle all sorts of ‘treasures’ including birds nests, feathers and thirty thousand year old mammouth teeth!

The gift shop sells nature books, bird food and feeders and there is a small tea bar.

Brief outline: At Slap ‘n Dash adults, teens and children of all ages are welcome to drop in at anytime and get creative during opening hours.

Primarily Slap n’ Dash is a Paint-Your-Own ceramic studio, customers simply select a ceramic piece, choose a design and paint.  We provide everything for the artistically challenged including stamps, stencils, sponges and idea books, a little coaching and a lot of encouragement.  The piece of art is then glazed and fired and you return to collect the item a week later.

Title of Day Out: Spa Valley Railway 
Brief Outline: The Spa Valley Railway is heritage railway operating steam and diesel trains over 5 miles of railway between Tunbridge Wells West and Eridge stations via High Rocks and Groombridge. Entirely operated by volunteers, services run every weekend from March to end of October, plus Santa Special trains during December. Also open Thursdays from June till August, plus additional weekdays in schoool holidays.

The railway has a cross platform link with Southern mainline trains between London Bridge and Uckfield at Eridge. Visitors can simply enjoy the ride through Wealden countryside, or use the heritage trains to reach Groombridge Place & the Enchanted Forest, Groombridge Village, the fabulous High Rocks or the historic Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells.

Lavender Line
Title of Day Out: The Lavender Line
Brief outline: The Lavender Line is a steam railway, stationed at Isfield, East Sussex.  The line is just over a mile long with a halt at the end where passengers can alight.  There, people can go for a walk or have a picnic when the weather is warmer.

The site also has a model railway, a signal box where the levers can be pulled, plus a play area.  There is a buffet available selling hot and cold food and beverages.

Llama Park
Title of Day Out: The Llama Park
Brief outline: The well established park has over 33 acres of grassland with beautiful views, home to some 30 llamas and 15 alpacas, reindeer, horses, sheep, donkeys, pigs, peacocks, Guinea fowl, chickens, geese, turkeys and miniature Shetlands.  There are also a few baby animals on their way this spring and summer!

There is an adventure play area, bouncy castle and a Winnie The Pooh Playhouse.  During the school holidays, we also create adventure trails around the park where children can collect clues to win prizes.

The Llama Park has a marriage licence and is open for weddings, private parties and birthdays.  We also offer family llama walks, a 30 minute walk around the park with two llamas given to each family.  It’s a great way to get up and personal with our animals.

Title of Day Out: Buttercups Sanctuary for Goats
Brief outline: Buttercups is a Kent-based sanctuary for goats, caring for between 130 and 150 goats resident on the sanctuary at any one time and with a similar number of goats fostered out to approved carers.

The goats in the care of Buttercups come to the sanctuary for a multitude of different reasons.  Some have been found abandoned and are brought to the sanctuary by organisations such as the RSPCA and the Police.  Others have been privately owned pets but, as they grow up they need an environment with more space and the company of other goats, goats being highly social animals.  Other residents of Buttercups have been used for scientific testing.

Whatever their history, the goats at Buttercups are assured of warm, dry and clean stabling, a healthy and varied diet, and plenty of safe space for grazing and exercise.

Brief outline: Mote Park is Maidstone’s largest park with more than 450 acres of mature parkland with a 30 acre lake, providing a wide range of recreational activities.  It’s a great place to walk around, or just sit and watch the swans or the model boat club.

There is a Pitch and Putt (18 holes), 2 children’s play areas, a skate park and BMX track.  The natural woodland play area is for ages 8 – 15 years.  Football and rugby pitches are also available, horse riding (permit only) and home to Maidstone Leisure Centre.

There is a miniature railway that is open on Sunday afternoons during the summer.

You will need a permit to fish at Mote Park.  To buy a permit, you will need a rod licence.  You will need to bring a copy of your rod licence with you to get the permit.

Climbing Introduction:

Extreme Ventures offers the Introduction to Climbing located at our Indoor Brighton & Hove Rock Climbing Wall in the Stanley Deason Leisure Centre which are mixed sessions with other customers, offering an opportunity to learn the basics to climb efficiently and safely with a group of likeminded people. Clients can receive a taster session of roped wall climbing. The session begins with an induction lasting around 1 hour.

Climbing newcomers can then decide to attend one of our Unique Climbing Tuitions and learn all the basic skills required for scaling walls and rock faces over the course of two 3 hour sessions before proceeding without instruction, with putting on harnesses, rope handling, tying knots and efficient climbing movement are all covered in our Advanced Climbing Course. The climbing wall offers various slabs, overhangs, lead climbing and featured climbs or practice climbing techniques in our bouldering room.

Climbing Courses:

You will be learning all aspects of Indoor climbing techniques with a Qualified and Experienced Instructor, they will teach you all the skills required for climbing on all Indoor climbing venues including safety, belaying, knots, ground anchors, bouldering & climbing techniques. If you have little or no experience with climbing and bouldering you can learn indoors at Extreme Ventures Indoor state of the art Indoor Climbing Centre located in Brighton at the Stanley Deason Leisure Centre.  From 5 years plus

Junior Climbing Club:

Extreme Ventures offers indoor climbing clubs for children in Brighton, these clubs offer skilled training for climbing and keep the children occupied during the school holidays, at the weekends and for after school clubs at a discounted and budget price. Located at the Stanley Deason Leisure Centre in Brighton at Extreme Ventures Indoor Rock Climbing Wall. With 40 different graded climbs, a dedicated bouldering training area, over hangs and lead climbing there is something suitable for everyone.

Children’s Parties:

Over 5s Indoor Climbing Parties are held at our amazing indoor facility and have parties to suit all ages and abilities. Start by spending time with one of our hugely experienced instructors learning how to climb with ropes in one of our fully equipped teaching areas. Every child will get the opportunity to attempt a variety of roped climbs and experience the responsibility of protecting a climber by learning to belay. This activity is uniquely designed to ensure your group have the birthday to remember and will be reminisced for years to come, returning again for another memorable day.

Our Indoor Climbing Parties give the organisers an opportunity to sit back knowing that the group is entertained and in safe hands with our experienced & qualified instructor which facilitates Extreme Ventures to provide a fantastic activity for any occasions. You can then have a break for party food in our well-equipped function room (see below).

Abseiling Parties:

This is a great activity for over 5s birthday parties to suit all ages and abilities. Start by spending time with one of our hugely experienced instructors. Every child will get the opportunity to attempt the experience of abseiling. You can then have a break for party food in our well-equipped function room.

You also have the opportunity to return and try out our Abseiling Parties or Outdoor Climbing Parties just a short drive from Brighton providing climbing crags at Harrison Rocks in the beautiful Birchden Woods for Outdoor Roped Climbing and Rock Scrambling Parties.

Title of Day Out: Meet The Dinosaurs at Crystal Palace Park
Brief outline: For those not afraid of dinosaurs! This FREE park home to some full-size dinosaurs that lurk between the trees!  You can find out more about the exhibition and dinosaurs at the Crystal Palace museum in the park.

Crystal Palace park is also home to the national sports centre, a children’s farm, a playground, a maze and an outdoor concert stage and plenty of green space to run about in.

The park has a good range of habitats, including a lake which is valuable for water birds

Brief outline:

We are a working arable farm which has been opening its gates to the public since 2010 for pumpkin picking from the field.  

 

The whole family are welcome (no dogs please) to come prepared for an outside adventure, suitable footwear needed.  You can borrow a wheelbarrow and walk the rows of different coloured and sized pumpkins choosing your favourites for eating or carving.

Brief outline: Extending across nearly 300 acres, Shorne Woods Country Park offers a wide rance of natural habitats to enjoy.  Once ancient woodland, then used for clay extraction from the 1920’s, the old clay pits created the flat, grassy areas that are now home to the picnic and play areas, Visitor Centre and car park.

There are many ways to enjoy your recreation time in the Park – picnic and play areas, trim trail and orienteering, fishing, waymarked trails and there is an Easy Access Trail suitable for prams and wheelchairs.
