Uniformed Groups
Beavers
Title of Class: Beavers
Class Description: Beaver Scouting is all about having fun, making friends and learning new skills.  Youngsters start to gain some independence while trying out many different activities and experiencing new adventures.  They follow a balanced programme, earning Challenge Awards and Activity Badges, but the most important parts are joining in and trying their best.

Fun includes going on visits, making things, playing games and exploring the world around them.  They learn about other people and about themselves.  Beavers don’t go camping but they can have a sleepover indoors, somewhere near home.

Boys and girls aged 6 or 7 can become a Beaver Scout and around the time of their 8th birthday, Beavers ‘swim up’ to Cubs to continue on their path through Scouting.

  Brownies
Title of Class: Brownies
Class Description:

Brownies is for all girls aged seven to ten

Girls in Brownies have incredible experiences together, make brilliant friends and discover the world around them. Every time they meet up, groups of Brownies learn new skills and take on challenges as they work out what they want to be and do in the future.

A space to try new things

Brownies is about getting together regularly – often each week – to work on badges, play games and see friends. It’s about trying adventurous activities and going along to special events, day trips, sleepovers, camps and holidays.
Brownies go for it!

Girls in Brownies are part of a small group called a Six, lead by a girl called a Sixer. They make their own decisions about what badges and activities to do next. They work together to explore their place within their local community and the world around them.
The Brownie Adventure

Girls follow the Brownie Adventure programme in their regular meetings. They work towards interest badges related to activities and skills such as stargazing or science investigation.
Brownies take part in exciting trips and events locally and with girls across the UK. Girls might enjoy 24 hours of circus-themed fun at our Magic and Mayhem event, spend their first weekend away on pack holiday or try out an adventurous sport with their unit.

  Guides
Title of Class: Girl Guides
Class Description:  Guides is for all girls aged 10 to 14

In Guides you’ll get out there and do something really different.
You’ll create your own campaigns, learn and share new skills and fly down the occasional zip wire. You’ll explore new places – Guides go on camps, holidays and trips, enjoy exciting events like our star-studded concert the BIG GIG and our music festival, Wellies and Wristbands.

Guides build brilliant friendships

Girls at Guides won’t be your average friends. They’ll be the girls who want to go on adventures with you, who encourage you to try new things and who celebrate when you’ve pushed yourself to achieve something special.
As you progress through Guides you’ll have a chance to lead small groups and support younger girls to have fun and make friends. You could even get involved in our Youth Leadership programme.
Guides get to have their say

You and the girls in your group will decide together what to do in your meetings. So whether you want to try a new sport, have a go at performing or run a debate – you can.
If there’s an issue you really care about, Guides is a chance to make a difference. You’ll be encouraged to speak out about what matters to you and to do something about it.
Your Guide programme, awards and badges

You’ll follow the Guide programme which includes interest badges – about science, cooking outdoors, films, all sorts – special activity packs and unique awards like the Baden-Powell Challenge Award, which will really help you at school and later in life.

The Senior Section
Title of Class: The Senior Section
Class Description: The Senior Section is the Uniformed Group for girls aged 14 years to 25 years.

Members of The Senior Section can choose from a wide range of unique and exciting opportunities, including travel in the UK and around the world, volunteering with younger girls within GirlGuiding as a Mentor or Leader, and working towards valuable qualifications.

The Senior Section offers an exciting and flexible programme with a huge variety of challenges and opportunities for personal development.

The ‘Look Wider’ Programme offers a range of activities and challenges and motivates members to try out new things – it could be learning a language, playing a musical instrument, running a marathon, camping in the wilds or volunteering overseas.  It is flexible and participants can take their chosen activities as far as they wish, from taster level all the way to gaining a qualification that is recognised outside Guiding.

Members of the Senior Section can undertake a wide range os awards and qualifications.  These include the Leadership qualification, which helps them in running guiding units for younger girls, the internationally-recognised Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, the Queen’s Guide Award, the Commonwealth Award and other prestigious awards specific to guiding.

There are many International opportunities open to members of The Senior Section.  They range from attending guiding events abroad to volunteering on community projects in developing countries.  Members can also take part in our successful ‘peer education’ programme.  Young women can become Peer Educators trained to run sessions on issues that affect girls and young women such as binge drinking, bullying, stress management and sexual health.  They can also make their voices heard by, for example, joining the guiding delegation at the British Youth Council, or having a say in the future of guiding by attending one of our ‘Innovate’ meetings.
